For the artist starting a work is simple, attractive and always exciting. All possibilities are open, you can experiment freely. Problems are created, formulated and explored.
Solutions need only come later, and if not, it’s not a problem, at least you think so….

But finally finishing a work is an entirely different thing. All previous steps now turn out to matter, nothing was optional. With the completion, you position the work and thus yourself as an artist, you conclude it, you make a statement with it, you say: ‘this is it and it doesn’t get any better’.
The work becomes public. You can be judged on it, everyone can think something of it, everyone thinks something of it.
